The main goal of the project is contribution to reduction of maternal and infant mortality in Central Asian countries.
Complex influence of the project which implementing in Kyrgyzstan from 2006 is spreads for several levels.

These are medical providers and medical facilities of primary and secondary level of maternal care, population who is the receivers of these services (pregnant woman and her family), community in which the services are provided.

For achieving the goal project pay especial attention to:

ENHANCING THE QUALITY OF CARE:
Project National Trainers Team with the support of international experts provide the training of medical providers and managers on effective perinatal and antenatal care, with special focus on effective communication and basic counseling and professional attitude , also as the effective management of change and team work. Beside that the project works for enhancing the access to medical facilities for all women irrespective of age, social characteristics, religion and other factors.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS FOR WOMAN AND HER FAMILY:

In Bishkek and Karakol opened and successfully working 4 Preparing for Birth “Schools” (birth preparing courses). At Schools woman and her near relations (husband, mother, and sister) receive the information about pregnancy, delivery, post delivery and newborn care. Special focus goes to danger signs and preparation of delivery plan. Besides that women receive course of physical and psychological preparation, using provided by School techniques of relaxation, massage and positive attune for delivery. Training Course let the woman and her partner not only receives the information, but the skill of breathing and behavior during contractions and delivery, methods of nonmedical painkilling during the delivery, support during the pregnancy and partner delivery.

SUPPORT BASE:

Experts of the project participate in developing and approbation of clinical protocols, statements, and other normative-legal base of obstetrics care, according to evidence – based medicine. For insuring the quality of care in the frames of project there were developed manuals on organization and the work of Preparing For Birth Schools, basics of effective management of change in maternal care facilities.



COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION AND SUPPORT:

In the frames of project there were prepared the promoters of maternal and child health (MCH promoters) – active community members, who spread the basic information on pregnancy, delivery and newborn care with the focus of danger signs on peer –to -peer principle and refer women to Birth Preparation School and medical facilities, and who are the connecting-links between community and official health system. Besides that with the support of the project there were opened community fund “Altyn Beshik” (from Kyrgyz -Golden Cradle), working in Taldy-suu village and participating in solving maternal and child health problems in their community implementing the transport, finance scheme of support.


Besides for attraction the attention of community and integrating the programs on family planning, healthy life style and prevention of HIV/AIDS , and the involving the whole family in reproductive health issues, active community representatives, together with the local authorities doing the action and competitions for their community (photo – action “mother, father and me – healthy family” in Taldysuu village, 2009).
